Frequently Asked Questions

I live in a condominium; is it possible to install hardwood floors?

If you live on the first floor of a condominium, we can install hardwood or laminate floors in your unit. You must also check with the rules of the Homeowner's Association.

Can the floor furnace in my house be removed and the floors repaired?

We routinely repair the hole left by the removal of a floor furnace. Plywood is placed over the hole and nailed down. Hardwood boards are nailed to the plywood.

I have heard that I should not use Murphy's Oil Soap or wax-based cleaning products on my hardwood floors. Is this true?

You should only dry mop or use an approved hardwood floor cleaning solution. Please read the Floor Care page for more information.

Why is the color of my hardwood floors not uniform?

Natural variance in the wood causes lack of color uniformity in your hardwood floors. The higher the grade of wood, the less variance in color. Select grade of oak has a very uniform appearance.

I have linoleum over my hardwood floors. Is it possible to remove the linoleum and sand the floors?

In most cases linoleum can be removed and the floor sanded down. The sanding may take longer because of the residue from the glue.

Will the spots on my hardwood floors go away after they are sanded?

We may be able to sand out the spots depending on how deep they are. Please discuss this with us during the estimate.

I have older hardwood floors in my house and want to install new floors next to them. Will the colors match?

The colors may be similar, but we cannot guarantee that they will match. The color of wood changes over time, and wood that has aged 30 or 50 years will not have the same appearance as new wood.

When you install the floors, why are there spaces between the floor and the wall?

Wood is a natural product and it expands and contracts as temperature and humidity change. By leaving a gap between the floor and the wall, we have built in room for the wood to expand as it needs to without buckling. We recommend installing mouldings that will cover this space.
